EVERETT — A police pursuit reaching speeds of 105 mph ended in a north Everett neighborhood early Friday morning after the driver of the stolen car got on and off I-5 three times.
The 2000 Lexus was found abandoned at 9th Street and Maple Street. A police dog was able to track down a passenger, but not the driver, officials said.
The pursuit began around 11:30 p.m. when a Washington State Patrol trooper tried to stop the car, which was weaving in and out of lanes on southbound I-5.
The Lexus got off I-5 at Everett Mall Way and headed north onto Evergreen Way before getting back onto I-5 at 41st Street, trooper Mark Francis said.
Troopers followed the car north to 116th Street in Marysville. The driver headed west, coming within a block of the State Patrol’s district headquarters, Francis said.
It then headed south on Quil Ceda Boulevard, getting back on the freeway in south Marysville.
It then drove through some barrels leading to a road construction site on Highway 529 that connects Everett from Marysville.
Troopers used spike strips and tried bumping the back of the stolen car, causing it to spin out and stall. Neither strategy worked, Francis said.
The spike strips did, however, disable a car driven by another motorist not involved in the chase.
The fleeing driver abandoned the Lexus in north Everett. Everett police are investigating.
