PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. -- The Everett Silvertips were looking for a perfect road trip. They ended up falling just short.
Everett finished one point short of a perfect trip by falling 4-3 in overtime to the Prince George Cougars on Saturday night.
Brad Morrison scored the winner in overtime as Prince George snapped Everett's three-game winning streak. However, Everett still came away with seven of a possible eight points from its four-games-in-five-days trip through Alberta and northern British Columbia.
Chase Witala scored twice and Zach Pochiro also scored for Prince George (5-4-0-1), which avenged its shootout loss to the Tips a night earlier. Ty Edmonds earned the win in goal, making 26 saves.
Jujhar Khaira, Kohl Bauml and Carson Stadnyk scored for Everett (6-1-2-0), which returns home for a week before heading to Spokane on Friday. Daniel Cotton made 38 saves in net for the Tips.
Everett led by scores of 2-0 and 3-2, but the Cougars tied it 3-3 late in the second period, and the teams went to overtime for the second straight night. Then in OT Troy Bourke centered a pass for Morrison, who one-timed a shot past Cotton to end it.
Everett got off to a quick start, scoring twice in two minutes late in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. First, Khaira took a drop pass from Tyler Sandhu and wired a shot into the top corner to open the scoring at 14 minutes, 55 seconds. Then 1:25 later while Everett was short-handed, Bauml intercepted Pochiro's outlet pass and quickly fired the puck past Edmonds to give the Tips a two-goal lead.
But Prince George was still on the power play and the Cougars converted at 17:15, Witala putting a shot around Cotton from in close.
The Cougars then tied it 50 seconds into the second period. This time it was the Tips who turned the puck over in their own zone, allowing Witala to get his second of the game.
Everett regained the lead at 14:42. Stadnyk caught Edmonds guarding against a centering pass and scored from a tight angle to make it 3-2. But Prince George tied it again in the final minute, Pochiro converting Alex Forsberg's centering feed with just 16 seconds remaining.
