WENATCHEE — A preliminary investigation has found that a Wenatchee police officer was justified in using lethal force when he shot and killed a man last weekend.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s office has been investigating the shooting of 24-year-old Jeffrey Sutherland, who was wanted on a felony warrant. A statement from the office said it appears the shooting and use of lethal force was justified.
The Wenatchee World reported that Wenatchee police officers Justin Kissel and Jordan Orrell were trying to put handcuffs on Sutherland when Sutherland fired at police. That’s when Kissel shot and killed Sutherland.
Undersheriff John Wisemore said the investigation will be completed in several days and the case will be forwarded to prosecutors for review.
Police had responded to a medical call at a home Oct. 5. They later discovered Sutherland was wanted on a King County felony warrant and went to arrest him.
