Four major road projects in Snohomish County now winding down should provide better, safer conditions for drivers.
Crews still need to complete an eastbound on-ramp from Bickford Avenue near Snohomish to U.S. 2, but the $20 million overpass- interchange project is otherwise mostly done, according to the state Department of Transportation. Some lighting work and landscaping also remains.
The project features a new overpass ramp, already open, from Bickford to westbound U.S. 2 that allows drivers to traverse U.S. 2 without having to dart across the eastbound lanes as before. A new ramp from eastbound U.S. 2 to Bickford Avenue opened last week.
Paving work is complete on a 3-mile stretch of southbound I-5 from Lynnwood to Shoreline. The $5.4 million project eliminated deep ruts in the pavement. Final lane markings were scheduled to be painted by Friday.
Crews repaired and repaved the stretch from 52nd Avenue W. to Highway 104 as well as the ramps at Highway 104, 236th Street SW and 220th Street SW.
Repairs on the 60-year-old southbound Highway 529 Snohomish River Bridge in Everett should be complete in the next couple of weeks, according to the state. Contractor crews are fixing and replacing several large pieces of equipment that move the drawbridge up and down. More nighttime closures of southbound Highway 529 likely will be needed to complete the $3.2 million job.
Paving work on Arlington’s Highway 531 from 43rd Avenue NE to Highway 9 is continuing. Wet weather has slowed things down, according to the state, but crews are pushing to finish the $1.8 million job, according to the state.
Lane stripes are scheduled to be painted after the paving is done.
