Couple married for 68 years die in car crash

MEAD -- Washington State Patrol troopers say an elderly northeast Washington couple fatally injured in a weekend crash north of Spokane were found holding hands.
KREM-TV reported that 92-year-old Floyd Nordhagen and 88-year-old Kathryn Nordhagen of Chattaroy died Sunday after a collision on the Newport Highway. The State Patrol says their car was attempting to make a turn when it collided with a pickup truck.
Trooper Rob Spencer told KREM the couple were holding hands when the patrol arrived, adding, “You don’t see that every day.”
Family friend “Britches” Peden told the station, “I don’t know if they were holding hands before he passed, or if she grabbed him afterward but it doesn’t matter.” And Peden adds, “They would have been holding hands if they could.”
