EVERETT — It’s been a long time since the Everett Silvertips could say they had the reigning WHL Player of the Week, but the drought is now over.
Everett defenseman Matt Pufahl was named the WHL Player of the Week on Monday, becoming the first Silvertip to earn the honor in nearly three years.
Pufahl, a 20-year-old defenseman from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, had four goals, two assists and a plus-5 rating as Everett went 3-0-1-0 during its four-game road trip through Alberta and northern British Columbia. He was acquired by the Tips via trade from the Saskatoon Blades during the offseason.
Before Pufahl, the Tips didn’t have a WHL Player of the Week since winger Kellan Tochkin earned the honors for Nov. 15-21, 2010.
