Don't re-elect elusive Somers

It is interesting to read the letters and editorial highly praising councilman Somers recently printed in your newspaper. Somers has stated in his re-election pamphlet that he is always available to all his constituents. In my experience of attempting to contact him over the last dozen or so years, I found him to be extremely elusive. None of my many phone calls and emails have ever once received a personal reply from him. When Neil Watkins, former Director of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, tried to arrange a meeting between him and myself, Neil's request also was ignored. My property is in Dave Somers district, which makes me one on his constituents.
The project I had in mind was a much needed recreational vehicle park east of Monroe on U.S. 2. I contacted many of the business owners and residents between Monroe and Steven's Pass, most of whom had hoped this type of facility would become available in the area. When I contacted the tourism bureau and the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, they enthusiastically endorsed the idea. They realized that an RV park would bring much needed tourist dollars to the businesses of the area as well as providing jobs. Several residents told me that they were awakened from their sleep by tourists knocking on their doors asking if they could park their recreational vehicles in their yard.
It is important to elect a councilman who is sensitive to the differing needs of his constituents, and who would be willing to work in cooperation with the chamber of commerce and the tourism bureau.
Dave Somers is not that man.
