Oak Harbor beats Marysville Getchell 41-7
The thick fog didn't seem to affect the play of Oak Harbor quarterback Clay Doughty and wide receiver Dylan Harris as the combo connected on two huge scoring plays of 39 and 75 yards respectively.
"It was really foggy tonight, it made it tough to see at times," said Wildcats head coach Jay Turner. "Our game plan changed in that we saw that (Getchell) were going to give us the pass, so that allowed us to be able to throw the ball a little bit."
The Wildcats' ground game once again seemed in control with the use of their split backs Julian Faralan, Sheyenne Sams and Dejon Devroe. Farlan provided much of the workload, rushing for 69 yards on 14 carries. Devroe, returning after a one week absence due to injury was limited on Friday night with just six carries for 76 yards including a 22-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Sams' provided a 69-yard rushing score and an 85-yard kickoff return for pay dirt late in the fourth.
"(Sheyenne) is just amazing," said Turner. "He's probably the most intelligent football guy on the team. He's just electric, no play is ever dead when he's on the field."
With the victory Oak Harbor goes into next week's showdown with Marysville Pilchuck with a chance at a share of the Wesco 3A North title.
"You obviously look into stopping (Marysville Pilchuck's) run game," Turner said. "It's the same situation as last year. We're playing for a league title and we're going to have to give it our best."
