Train strikes couple walking dog; 1 dead, 1 hurt

KENNEWICK -- A freight train has struck a couple walking a dog along railroad tracks in Kennewick. Police say a woman was killed Monday afternoon and a man was severely injured.
The Tri-City Herald reported that officers say the man and woman were walking with a pit bull-mix dog just east of the Volland Street train overpass.
The newspaper said the dog was injured and taken to a veterinarian.
BNSF Railway officials were assisting police with the investigation.
The couple were not immediately identified.
