SEATTLE — The University of Washington announced Monday that a memorial service for former football coach Don James will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Alaska Airlines Arena on the UW campus. The event is open to the public.
James died Sunday at the age of 80.
The school also said the following remembrances of James will take place during Saturtday night’s Pac-12 football game against California:
n James family members will serve as honorary captains for the pre-game coin toss.
n The Husky Marching Band will perform “A Tribute to The Dawgfather,” including a memorial video and former UW football players, during halftime.
n The UW players will wear helmet decals for the remainder of the 2013 season.
n UW coaches and other sideline staff will wear a similar patch.
n Because of the halftime activities, the annual Homecoming “Blanket Parade,” involving former UW letterwinners, will be moved to pre-game.
