Russell Wilson looking forward to Percy Harvin "fear factor"
When asked what Harvin will bring to Seattle's offense, quarterback Russell Wilson answered, "Just the fear factor. Percy brings so much speed, he can do so many great things, and he just loves the game of football."
That "fear factor" Wilson mentions isn't just about the big plays Harvin will make, but also what the threat of those big plays can do for an offense. Harvin is so dangerous when he steps on the field, defenses have to respect his big-play ability, and if and when defenses start taking precautions to stop Harvin, that will inevitably open things up for other receivers, or loosen things up in the running game for Marshawn Lynch, or leave huge chunks of field open for Wilson to scramble if a play breaks down. Yes, Harvin will have his share of big plays this season, but his impact will also be felt by the rest of the offense on plays he doesn't touch the ball.
Wilson, of course, has had very little chance to practice with Harvin seeing as the receiver missed most of Seattle's preseason workouts, all of training camp, and the first seven weeks of the regular season. The two have thrown together outside of practices, however, both before Harvin's injury and since he came back, so despite limited time together, Wilson feels comfortable throwing to Harvin whenever he does get back on the field.
"In terms of Percy, I feel comfortable with him already," Wilson said. "We talk the game all the time, he’s up here all the time getting ready. The biggest thing is just continuing to throw to him, continuing to just do what it takes to have that chemistry. He’s a great football player, he’s one of the best in the National Football League. He brings an electricity to our offense when he is able to come in and play. Whenever we’re able to have him out on the field, we’re excited about that opportunity. The great thing about it is we have so many other guys who have stepped up this season, and we’re still doing really well. . . But to be able to add Percy whenever that opportunity comes around, we’re excited about that."
