Army police investigating equipment at landfill
Joint Base Lewis-McChord spokesman Joe Kubistek tells the News Tribune that the Army's Criminal Investigative Division is looking into the matter.
Photographs of the material showed dozens of biometric scanning devices soldiers use to collect fingerprints and iris scans of people they encounter on patrols. The devices have been standard equipment in Iraq and Afghanistan.
A person who saw the gear told the newspaper the material arrived at the landfill Oct. 19. Images obtained by the newspaper show military serial numbers. Some of the material appeared to be new and was in fresh packaging.
