Reclaiming Futures

Upbeat program wants, needs you

I read the Oct. 12 letter from Kathy Haggerty about the Systems 101 conference hosted by New Life Center for Reclaiming Futures of Snohomish County. ("Thanks to those working to help teens.") I had the opportunity to attend this conference as a citizen volunteer and found it to be just exactly as she said. It was a group of people gathered together with a shared vision for our kids and community. People who are willing and committed to sharing themselves toward the common goal of assisting youth and families caught for a time in the cycle of substance abuse, mental health issues and crime came together to learn more about how we are helping and how to do it together more effectively and in lasting ways.
Citizens from the community can indeed partner in the Reclaiming Futures process with those who do this work in an official capacity. It is a wonderful opportunity to have impact using a well developed strategy to make a difference right here in Snohomish County. If you are someone who has been interested in making a contribution to the health of your community and you have a heart for our youth, this outreach welcomes, wants and needs you. It is engaging and satisfying to be enabled and empowered to work with our youth as part of a positive collaborative team. Go to the Snohomish County web page and type in "Reclaiming Futures" to learn more about this upbeat, concrete work.
