Reader poll: Everett vs. Seattle, round 1
But it's impossible not to take note of the game that takes place one night later. Saturday night Comcast Arena will be rocking as Everett faces Seattle for the first time this season.
The I-5 rivals played many a competitive and compelling game the past three seasons -- there were times when I remarked that the teams should cancel the rest of their schedule and just play one another the remainder of the season. The problem was while the games were compelling, the teams weren't very good. They played some huge games down the stretch the past three seasons -- for the right to finish eighth in the Western Conference and be dispatched by the top seed in the first round of the playoffs.
It's looking like Everett and Seattle will be battling head-to-head in the standings once again. But this time it appears it will be toward the top instead of toward the bottom as both teams have broken out of their years-long lethargy. Everett is 10-2-2-0, Seattle is 10-3-0-2, and both are just one point behind Portland for first place in the Western Conference. Everett-Seattle games may take on a significance greater than ever before.
By the way, if you want to see the rivalry anytime soon, you'd better get to Saturday's game. While the Tips and T-birds play 10 times this season, nine of those come after Christmas, so this is your one chance to see them square off in the first half of the season.
