EVERETT -- A botched burglary that left a convicted felon hog-tied and unconscious earned the man a two-year stretch in prison.
A jury last month convicted James Mellett of second-degree burglary for the Feb. 27 incident. Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Janice Ellis on Monday sentenced Mellett, 52, to the maximum allowed by law.
Police found Mellett unconscious and trussed up with zip-ties after he tangled with the night watchman at a Monroe mansonry business. The security guard said Mellett and another man attacked him with clubs during the burglary attempt, but he fought them off.
Mellett told police he was too overweight and too slow to escape the security guard.
He has a criminal history dating back to the 1980s.
