MARYSVILLE — Amanda Klep scored a pair of goals and Cassandra La Brake scored a goal and assisted on another as the Tomahawks beat Stanwood to clinch their first league title since 1977, according to head coach Paul Bartley.
Marysville Pilchuck is the Wesco 3A North champs and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming district tournament, which starts Saturday. Marysville Pilchuck will host Shorewood in the first round.
“This was the goal at the beginning of the season,” Bartley said. “We stated it and we wanted to do this last year at our team dinner after the district tournament. We knew we had the people up front to do this.”
Klep scored her 16th and 17th goals on the season to lead the Tomahawks to their ninth win of the season.
“She’s what makes us go,” Bartley said of Klep. “She’s enthusiastic and makes all the runs.”
If MP wants to make any noise in the district tournament it’ll have to figure out the mystery that is the Wesco South. The Tomahawks are 7-0 against 3A North opponents this season and 1-4 against 3A South teams.
“I think the main thing is you don’t get to see them play,” Bartley said of the 3A South teams. “You learn a lot and make adjustments. We’ll be ready to play come Saturday.”
