Man cited for bringing pot to prison

Pot may be legal now, but you still can't bring it with you to prison.

A 22-year-old Seattle man just learned that lesson the hard way.

Officers were called to the Monroe Correctional Complex on Friday night after a visitor was caught with marijuana, according to the police blotter.

About 1.9 grams of marijuana was in a bag in the man's shirt front-pocket, Monroe police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said.

A corrections officer asked the man what was in his pocket, Willis said. The man reached into his pocket, took out a small bag and threw it in the garbage. The officer looked at the bag and saw it looked like marijuana.

It was just a misunderstanding though, the man explained.

"He said, 'It's not my shirt,'" Willis said.

The man reportedly told officers that he has been trying to get his life back together, and that he didn't know the marijuana was in the pocket because he'd borrowed his roommate's shirt. Sounds entirely plausible, right?

A criminal citation was issued for third-degree introducing contraband to a correctional facility. Contraband cases happen occasionally, Willis said.

"However, it's not so obvious normally," she said.
