Following Sunday’s win, Pete Carroll said the team’s most significant injury concern was the health of center Max Unger, who suffered a concussion. Well now it turns out the Seahawks have concussed players on both sides of the line, because DE Red Bryant also has one, Carroll said Monday.
“(Unger) had a good day today,” Carroll said. “He got hit in the head, concussion symptoms showed up. Red Bryant did as well, as we found out today. So those guys are going through the protocol to see if they’re able to return We’ll take great care in making those decisions.”
Asked if they have to go into this week assuming they might be without those two players, Carroll said, “We need to do that. We have to get Lem ready to play, and that’s how we have to think about it. We have to think Red might not be able (to play), because we won’t know until Thursday likely, it might be all the way to Friday, so we have to plan like those guys aren’t gong to be there.”
On receiver Percy Harvin, who is still working his way back from hip surgery, Carroll said, “We’ll see. We’re still working to bring him on back. He had good rehab today, so we’ll see how he does tomorrow.
Asked if Harvin could play this week, he said, “I don’t know that. I’m not counting on that.”
Russell Wilson took a beating, but is doing well, Carroll said: He’s OK. He’s full smiles. He’s fired up, he loved that we won and the way we won it. He loved that he saw the challenge coming right there in the second quarter that it’s going to be one of those days where we’re going to have to come back. And he’s real proud today. He’s banged up, but he’ll be OK. We think we’ll put together a good week, and we’ve just got to do a better job of keeping him clean. We got out of the game with no sacks, but he got hit five times, and he got hit substantially, with a couple of penalties in there too. So he got hit pretty good, but he’s a tremendous athlete to take those hits and to roll with it and all of that. He takes full advantage his athleticism to get out of some of that stuff.
Any concern about his availability for practice?
“No, we’re planning practicing him.”
Asked about injured tackles Breno Giacomini and Russell Okung, Carroll said, “We plan, if everything goes well tomorrow, by Wednesday Breno will practice with us, and we’ll see what he does and see what he can do. That will kind of be determined by what happens tomorrow, but we plan on him being out there practicing. Russell as well, that’s the plan. We know that Russell has a longer timeframe before he can return, so we just have a bigger window there, but we’ll find out.
“It’s not likely (Giacomini) will be ready to get back (Sunday). It’s a lot to ask of him in one week’s time on the practice field. We’ve got to take a couple of weeks, really get him solid, get his legs under him and see where he is.”
