Silvertips center Jujhar Khaira was one of 22 players selected to represent the WHL in this year’s Canada-Russia Super Series. The teams play Nov. 27 in Red Deer and Nov. 28 in Lethbridge.
The Canada-Russia Super Series is used by Hockey Canada as part of its selection process for the World Junior Hockey Championships. Therefore, Team WHL consists only of Canadian players who are 19 years old or younger.
Interestingly, only one goaltender is on the initial roster. I have to wonder whether the other spot is being held for Everett’s Austin Lotz. Lotz, who has been involved with Hockey Canada in the past, is currently injured, but he’s expected back right around that time. Perhaps they’re waiting to see whether Lotz recovers in time before naming the other goalie.
