Best bets this week

Tonight

“Mike &Molly,” originally scheduled for a midseason debut, arrives early to provide some comic (and ratings) relief. The opener has Molly (Melissa McCarthy) making a huge decision about her career. 9 p.m., CBS.

Tuesday

“Jimi Hendrix — Hear My Train a Comin’” is a fascinating “American Masters” documentary using previously unseen performance footage, home movies and family letters, along with interviews with those who knew him best, to provide fresh insight into the pioneering musician’s personality and genius.

The film traces the guitarist’s remarkable journey from his hardscrabble beginnings in Seattle, through his stint as a U.S. Army paratrooper, unknown sideman to R&B stars and his discovery and ultimate international stardom. 9 p.m. Tuesday, PBS.

Guest-star alert: Damon Wayans Jr., who appeared in the “New Girl” pilot, reprises his role as Coach and returns to the loft expecting things to be exactly as he left them. Oops. 9 p.m. Tuesday, Fox.

Wednesday

Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley are back to host the 47th Annual CMA Awards. Among the highlights: Performances by Taylor Swift, Vince Gill and Alison Krauss, and a tribute to Kenny Rogers. 8 p.m., ABC.

Thursday

Bob Newhart, who just won his first Emmy for an appearance on “The Big Bang Theory,” returns tonight to reprise his role as Professor Proton, the host of Leonard and Sheldon’s favorite childhood science show. 8 p.m., CBS.

We’re doing the Chicken Dance in anticipation of an “Inside The Actors Studio” devoted to “Arrested Development.” James Lipton is joined by Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Alia Shawkat, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter and creator Mitch Hurwitz. 8 p.m., Bravo.

Friday

Say “aloha” to “The Lylas.” It’s a reality show that follows the four sisters of pop star Bruno Mars as they move from Honolulu to Los Angeles to pursue their showbiz dreams. 8 p.m., WE.

Saturday

On “Jobs That Bite!,” Jeremy Brandt tries out risky duties like cleaning shark tanks and trapping black bears. Better him than us. 9 p.m., Nat Geo Wild.
