Incumbents lead in school board races

In school board races across the county, incumbents were leading in their races.
On Tuesday evening, Edmonds School Board incumbent Susan Phillips was soundly defeating her challenger Leti Solis in the race for the District 4 seat on the board. Phillips was first appointed to the board in November 2007 and currently serves as the school board's vice president.
Phillips received 11,539 votes or 76.17 percent of the vote to Solis's 3,505 or 23 percent of the vote.
Phillips said she is proud of her work to ensure that at-risk students see college as a realistic option. She was also happy about the district's rising graduation rates and the district's ability to weather the recession.

In Lake Stevens, it's a close race between Lake Stevens School Board president John Boerger and challenger Kerry Goodwin, a local grandfather who works for a security company.
Boerger was leading with 1,580 votes or 50.16 percent to Goodwin's 1,532 or 48.63 percent.
Boerger has said he would like to continue the good work the school board has been doing.

Voters in the Lakewood School District were favoring three-term incumbent Oscar Escalante over Michael Blank, a bus driver.
Escalante had 822 votes or 50.77 percent of the vote to Blank's 783 votes or 48.36 percent of the vote.
Escalante said the next challenge for the school board is the tax proposal going before voters on the February 2014 ballot.
