We support the appointment of Judy Tuohy to the Everett City Council position 7 to replace Shannon Affholter. Judy was the Executive Director of the Arts Council of Snohomish County when we chaired the Schack Art Center capital campaign. Our experience showed us that Judy has the qualifications to be a great addition to the Everett City Council.
The city council needs more diversity. Appointing a woman who has lived, worked and raised a family here to join the five men on the seven-member council would be a step in the right direction. Furthermore, Judy has the skills and perspective that will help the council steer Everett into the future.
As Executive Director of the Schack Art Center, Judy has demonstrated these skills by guiding the growth, development and name change of her organization from the Arts Council of Snohomish County to the Schack Arts Center.
She is fiscally conservative and responsible. She has managed a non-profit that has more than doubled in size and programs since it moved in 2011 from the Monte Cristo Hotel to its new location on Hoyt Avenue. She has balanced the books as well as expanded the Schack Art Center’s outreach to our schools and our community. Her leadership of the Schack has made downtown Everett a better place to live.
We think that the way to revitalize Everett is to attract young wage earners who want to stay here to live, do business and be entertained. We need city council members who share this vision. We want someone who represents all of us, who is a problem solver with good business management skills, who not only understands how to balance a budget but also can think creatively in order to meet the challenges that lay ahead.
We think Judy Tuohy is the woman for the job.
