Everett 3, Kamloops 1

TALKING POINTS

OK, running on fumes tonight, so it's going to be brief. But it's a pretty easy story to tell. Everett completely dominated the puck, outshooting Kamloops 38-18, and the final score did not do the game justice. Whenever there was a puck battle, it seemed like the Tips won it, with an open player available for an outlet pass. There was even a shift in the second period where Everett's fourth line, consisting of two players who still haven't turned 16 yet and one making his Tips debut, kept Kamloops' top line pinned. The offensive damage was all done by one line (see below), but the puck domination was truly a team effort. It was pretty similar to Saturday's 5-0 victory over Seattle. It was a crisp, disciplined performance.

TURNING POINT

Everett's puck domination was greatest in the first period, but it looked as though the Tips would come away with nothing to show for it until Ivan Nikolishin's slap shot on the power play in the final minute pin balled off the defense and in, giving Everett its deserved reward and preventing the Blazers from being able to rally around surviving the period.

THREE STARS

First star: Joshua Winquist. One goal and two assists, 18 points in the past six games. This line was good.

Second star: Tyler Sandhu, Everett. Two assists, maybe the best I've seen him play this season. This line was good.

Third star: Manraj Hayer, Everett. One goal and one assist. Did I mention this line was good?

The Herald's honorable mention: Austin Adam/Mirco Mueller, Everett. No points, but a tremendous game from this defensive pairing. They won battles, made good outlet passes, and activated in the offensive zone.

BOX SCORE

Everett 3, Kamloops 1
