Notes: The top five teams continue to roll, with Chiawana (which is quickly becoming my favorite thing to say and may soon become a nickname for Herald Writer Aaron Lommers who, like the Riverhawks, is from central Washington) rounding the group out. … I kept Edmonds-Woodway in the top 10 despite their loss to Lake Stevens because it is the Warriors’ first loss of the season. However, Edmonds-Woodway’s opponent in the quad-district playoffs, Federal Way, is bumped out after a 32-7 loss to Curtis that helped the Vikings find their way into my poll. … Bellarmine Prep also arrives on the scene after beating Gig Harbor. … If there was an 11th spot I would’ve put Lake Stevens there after its win over Edmonds-Woodway, but the Warriors’ season (with an 8-1 record) still has them ranked above the Vikings.

Notes: I finally did it. I got closer to ranking Marysville Pilchuck No. 1, moving the Tomahawks up a spot to No. 2. In all likelihood, that’s as high as they’ll get all season. Bellevue makes the word “juggernaut” an understatement. Marysville Pilchuck is still No. 3 in the poll but the number of votes between them and second-place O’Dea is dwindling which leads me to believe I wasn’t the only one to have the Tomahawks ranked No. 2. … The rest of the poll was very stationary with everyone in the top 10 winning besides Glacier Peak, which was No. 6. However, the Grizzlies loss was to Marysville Pilchuck, so I didn’t bump them off the list. I didn’t even want to move them down as much as I did but Eastside Catholic, Mount Spokane and Blanchet all had large, convincing wins last week.

Notes: Lakewood had a close call with King’s, which is a top 10 team in the next classification (1A), but I didn’t dock the Cougars for the close call. It was a conference rivalry game against a tough opponent for a league championship, and Lakewood came out on top and remained a perfect 9-0 at the end of the regular season – the first-ever undefeated regular season in Lakewood history. That’s good enough for a No. 4 ranking right? … The rest of the poll is the same except for R.A. Long which drops from No. 7 to No. 10 after a loss to now-No. 7 Mark Morris. The Monarchs were No. 8 but move up with the victory, as does Lindbergh and Othello. … I ranked Sedro-Woolley No. 10 because I think the Cubs have had a good season but no one listens to me.

Notes: I only bumped King’s down one spot after the Knights’ loss to Lakewood because the Cougars are a top-five 2A team. The rest of the Associated Press obviously disagrees with me. I’m typing up a very angry letter about this as we speak. OK that’s not true, but I will continue to rank King’s high as the Knights will now try to move past the state quarterfinals, where they have fallen the past four seasons.

Notes: The top six remain stationary – including No. 6 Wahkiakum which was idle. It’s hard to lose when you’re idle. It’s also hard to win. So No. 6 seems like a good spot to keep the Mules. … LaConner continues to roll, this time beating Darrington 52-20. I didn’t knock the Loggers out of the top 10 however. Maybe it’s Aaron Lommers’ #Loggerpower movement, but I can’t fault Darrington for falling to the No. 3 team and new No. 10 team (Concrete) in back-to-back weeks. That’s just a brutal schedule. … Concrete finally makes an appearance in the poll, albeit in a head-scratcher. The Sidewalks (not their official mascot but I’m working on that) defeated Darrington, but still remain below the Loggers in the AP poll. I don’t get it either. At least I got it right.
