Associated Press
EUGENE, Ore. -- The Coast Guard has medically evacuated an injured Navy sailor who reportedly severed part of a finger aboard the Everett-based destroyer USS Momsen off the Oregon coast.
Coast Guard spokesman Nathan Littlejohn said the unidentified sailor was flown by helicopter on Tuesday from his ship to Eugene, Ore. There he was taken to a Eugene hospital.
Littlejohn said his agency was told that the 23-year-old crewmember had gotten his finger closed in a watertight door.
The Momsen was about 75 miles west of Coos Bay, Ore., at the time.
