Edmonds council incumbents leading

The three Edmonds City Council incumbents on the Tuesday ballot all were leading in early returns with only one in a close race.

In the close contest incumbent Councilwoman Adrienne Fraley-Monillas had 51.4 percent of votes counted through Wednesday to 48.3 percent for Ron Wambolt, whom Fraley-Monillas replaced on the Council four years ago.

The results came with about 60 percent of the expected number of votes counted. Snohomish County officials reported that votes counted through Wednesday represented a 22.85 percent voter turnout, about 60 percent of the expected countywide turnout.

Updated returns are expected Thursday afternoon.

The contest between Fraley-Monillas and Wambolt was expensive, with Wambolt having reported raising $23,071 and spending $16,654, and Fraley-Monillas having raised $18,521 and spent $11,728.

Two other Edmonds Council incumbents had comfortable leads.

Appointed incumbent Councilwoman Kristiana Johnson held a 66 percent to 33 percent lead over challenger Randy Hayden, and incumbent Councilman Strom Peterson had a 73 percent to 26 percent lead over challenger Alvin Rutledge.
