I am in full agreement with the letter “Tuohy’s skills are greatly needed”, regarding the possible appointment of Judy Tuohy to the Everett City Council, filling the space vacated by Shannon Affholter, I have had the great pleasure of observing the tremendous growth of the Arts Council of Snohomish County, now the Schack Art Center, from its very early days in a store front on Colby to the current Schack Art Center. First a board member, then a volunteer, and, finally, it’s executive director. It has been a long and very successful ride for Judy, and much to the benefit of the arts in our community.
Of her many managerial skills, which are clearly addressed in the letter, it is the focus that she, and her organization, has given to the arts for children and young adults that I find most impressive and powerful. Artists in the schools and the many children’s workshops that take place at the Schack, week after week, is exciting and hopeful.
The Schack Art Center is a well run, non-profit organization. Its outreach to the community, to children, and to local businesses is something for which we should all be proud. There are many reasons why the Schack is so successful, given its amazing staff. But, none more so than the work and leadership provided by Judy Tuohy. I strongly urge the members of the city council to appoint Judy Tuohy to this very important position. The city will be the beneficiary.
