Kamiak girls soccer takes third in districts

Knights beat Snohomish 2-0, plays Issaquah Saturday for berth at state

EVERETT -- In a stunning reversal of the team's regular season match up, Kamiak controlled Snohomish on the way to a 2-0 victory that keeps the Knights state tournament hopes alive and ends the Panthers season.
"To switch it around from the last time is huge," Kamiak coach Beth Stewart said.
In the regular season match at Snohomish, Kamiak entered undefeated in league play, but left 3-1 losers in a game Snohomish owned from the beginning.
Thursday night was the opposite.
"From the beginning, I think the girls just dominated," Stewart said. "They had control of the game."
They outshot the Panthers 18-10, but didn't do any damage until the second half.
Early on after halftime Chardalise Madrigal and Baylie Lux-Lowry had a pair of quick passes that set up Christine Heisen for the game's first goal. In the 54th minute Tylor Adcock added an insurance goal on a long ball played from 45 yards out that bounced over the keeper's head.
Kamiak's win sets up a rematch with Issaquah in the district crossover game that will be winner-to-state, loser-out contest. A year ago the Knights traveled to Issaquah and lost 1-0. This time the game will be held at Kamiak.
"Big home game," Stewart said. "That's one of the things the girls are excited about."
