Rather miffed

CBS would Rather not: CBS News declined to invite back veteran newsman Dan Rather to participate in its 50th anniversary coverage of the John F. Kennedy assassination. The network denied the snub was because of bad blood between it and Rather, the only living CBS broadcaster who was part of the day's coverage.

Nor should Rather take it personally that CBS is restaging his historic clips and has asked Anderson Cooper, hair dyed black, to play the part of Rather.


Squirrel! Police in California are investigating the theft of 140,000 pounds of walnuts from a parked trailer.

All the more reason to treat with suspicion any fruitcake you receive this holiday season.


Luke, enough with the Force: Producers for "Star Wars: Episode VII" announced that the highly anticipated sequel will be released Dec. 18, 2015.

But with Darth Vader dead and peace restored to the galaxy far, far away, what's left for Luke, Leia, Han and company to do but play bridge at the Tatooine Assisted Living Center, berate C-3PO for mixing up their medication and take Chewbacca for walkies?
