Seems Like Yesterday

50 years ago (1963)

Family and friends honored George Thompson yesterday afternoon at Forest Park's Floral Hall. He was 90 years old today. At native of Vermont, Thompson came to Everett with his wife and three children in 1907.

Robert F. Johnson was retiring as roundhouse foreman for the Milwaukee Road after 47 years of service with the railroad. His fellow employees provided him with a portable radio to enjoy in his retirement.



25 years ago (1988)

One business in Everett Marina Village was closing, but another might grow. The Off Broadway Galley Gift and Fudge Shop closed its doors on Halloween. The 15-room Marina Village Inn could nearly double soon. Co-owner Bob Champion said the inn could add a dozen more rooms facing the waterfront, including a honeymoon suite

A sailor grabbed a line while the USS Sides eased into the pier at the Norton Terminal on the Everett waterfront. The guided-missile frigate was here to celebrate Veterans Day and would be open to public tours. A dozen crewman were to spend a day working for a Volunteers of America social service event.
