The Everett-based aircraft carrier in March deployed to a 2.5 million-square-mile area that includes the Red and Arabian seas, the Arabian Gulf, the gulfs of Aden and Oman and part of the Indian Ocean.
The Red Sea is where two of the ship's strike group helicopter crew members were killed in a MH-60S Knighthawk crash.
The crew's travels included a visit to South Korea in June and a port stop in Italy last week, where sailors toured Pompeii, Rome, the Vatican and Naples.
The Pentagon announced Friday plans to send the aircraft carrier home to Naval Station Everett. The ship is expected to return before Christmas.
