Hurt has enjoyed more than his share of compliments in his long career. But the one he treasures most came from a woman on the subway.
"I made the mistake of looking up and she saw me, recognized me," he said.
"I thought, 'Oh, please don't bother my life. Don't shout it out.
"Don't come over here, I'm not responsible for your feelings.,' Hurt said.
"She didn't do anything. When her stop came, I thought, 'No, here it comes.'
"But she just touched my shoulder and said 'Thank you.' That was it."
