On Oct. 31, Seattle Hip-Hop artist RA Scion released his new album “The Sickle and The Sword,” a collaboration with New York producer Rodney Hazard. This new ambient hip-hop sound is a different direction from RA Scion’s previous projects as Common Market and Victor Shade, and different never sounded so good.
“The Sickle and The Sword” is an ambitious, genre-bending effort that fills a void. RA Scion is making a game changing sound that is unmatched in a city flush with talent. Even outside of Seattle, I have never heard anything quite like this. Teaming up with artists like Motopony’s Daniel Blue and Blake Lewis from American Idol certainly doesn’t hurt.
It’s more than that though. RA Scion has always crafted thoughtful songs and when those lyrics are paired with producer Rodney Hazard the finished product is refreshing to say the least.
You can catch RA Scion this Thursday night at The Sickle and The Sword release party at Neumos in Seattle. The show has become a bit more than just a record release. Last week Seattle band La Luz was on returning from an out of town show and were involved in a car accident with a semi truck. Some band members were injured and all of their gear was destroyed as a result of the accident. RA Scion is making his album release party a benefit show to help La Luz. That’s pretty awesome.
You can get your copy of “The Sickle and The Sword” on iTunes now and you can get tickets to the release show here.
