Opening at its new location next week was Everett Book and Stationery. Ken Fowlds, in the business here for 23 years, was moving his firm from 2801 Wetmore Ave. where a new Bon Marche garage was to be built, to 2813 Colby Ave. in the Powell-Henning Block.
Re-opening of the new restaurant previously known as Hausler’s at 2913 Norton Ave. was announced. It would be called the Chalet. Work was being done to prepare for a December opening. Fred Cole would be manager.

The ferry Klahowya on the Everett waterfront was an unusual sight since the city had no state ferry service. The ferry was at Fishermen’s Boat Shop, the marine firm that won a $4.6 million contract to refurbish the vessel. The work called for intensive rehabilitation of the ship, which normally carried passengers on the Vashon runs.
Motorcycles, three-wheelers and other off-road vehicles would be banned from several acres of sand piled along the banks of the Snohomish River in north Everett. The sand was dredged from the river by the Army Corps of Engineers and dumped near the city’s sewage treatment lagoons on Smith Island.
