Published:
SEATTLE -- With about 30 protesters lining the room, the University of Washington Board of Regents approved plans Thursday for a new building to house mice, rabbits, dogs, pigs and primates used in biomedical research.
The Seattle Times reports the $124 million building will be entirely underground and will consolidate animal experiments on campus.
The protesters asked the board to phase out animal experiments and held signs saying "No New Animal Lab."
