Sometimes battles only leave casualties
Strikes, labor disputes and tough financial times plagued the company.
Finally this all came to a head in 1991 and ultimatums were issued by both sides. The short version of the story is that neither side yielded, and the company closed and locked the doors and it was gone! Never to fly again.
Some 18,000 employees lost their jobs, benefits and an income.
The big question is ... who won?
The simple answer is ... no one!
A very wise person once said, "If we don't learn from our mistakes, we will be doomed to repeat them."
Unfortunately, many of us must have flunked history class when we were in school!
I can't say who is right or wrong, labor or management, but it looks like the result of stubborn pride and inability to compromise on both sides may result in the loss of many jobs for Washington workers.
What a shame!
