When: Today, 2 p.m.
Where: Morton-White Pass H.S.
How they got here: Darrington (7-3) earned the third seed out of the Northwest 1A/2B League; Morton-White Pass (9-0) earned the No. 1 seed out of the Central 2B League.
Winner receives: Spot in quarterfinals against La Conner
Darrington outlook: Led by a strong junior class, the Loggers had their strongest season since 2007 that included a six-game win streak. Junior running back Bruce Massingale (1,004 yards) and senior back Garrett Green (1,152) became the first Loggers to rush for at least 1,000 yards in a season in seven years. Junior quarterback Trent Green leads the offense and fellow junior linebacker Nathan McKenzie is the leader of the defense.
Opponent breakdown: Morton-White Pass likes to run the ball a lot out of the power formation and use misdirection to keep defenses guessing. MWP is led by Brian Reynolds, who ran for 220 yards in the Timberwolves’ 41-7 win over then-No. 3 Napavine. While the offense has been good, averaging 49.5 points per game, the MWP defense has been downright great, pitching five shutouts and allowing just six touchdowns in nine games this season.
Scoreczar pick: MWP has flattened every opponent it’s faced this year with an average margin of victory of 44 points. It has not mattered one bit to the Timberwolves who is lined up on the other side of them. They play their game and do not deviate. Darrington has a nice team, but must play their best game to date to have any kind of chance. MWP, 40-8.
Swaney pick: MWP, 50-20
Krueger pick: MWP, 52-21
Lommers pick: MWP, 63-14
