Backcountry film festival: See 10 independent films that celebrate the joys of the outdoors in winter. The Winter Wildlands Alliance Backcountry Film Festival is Nov. 25 in Bellevue and Jan. 10 in Seattle. Tickets are $12 ($10 for Mountaineers members.)
For paddlers: The Deception Pass Dash, a 6-mile paddle through Deception Pass, is Dec. 8. You'll need a good amount of paddling experience to participate. The swirling waters of Deception Pass can be tricky. If you'd like to brush up on your skills before the event, there are on-water practices and classes the day before, Dec. 7. Get more info here.
