TACOMA — A 72-year-old Tacoma man has been sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to second-degree assault and malicious harassment in a road-rage incident involving two women.
The News Tribune reported that William Zesbaugh entered his plea Tuesday in Superior Court.
Prosecutors say the man apparently was angered because he thought a woman had cut him off in traffic last January as she and a female passenger drove toward a ferry terminal.
Court records show Zesbaugh followed the car, honking his horn, then ran into the back of the women’s car when it stopped for a stop sign.
When the woman approached the man’s car to get insurance information, the prosecution says the man grabbed a club-like steering wheel locking device and struck her. A ferry employee intervened to stop the attack.
Court records say the man then told the woman, “I know you’re lesbians.”
Zesbaugh told the court, in his words, “I just lost it.”
