The sheriff's animal control officer, Deputy Dave Yarnell, estimates there are at least 70 horses in the herd that has been growing for 10 years.
The Wenatchee World reported the horses trample rangeland in the summer and eat feed that's put out for cattle in the winter.
The sheriff's office plans to meet Dec. 3 with The Shepherds Way Animal Rescue group in Stevens County to plan a roundup with volunteer wranglers, possibly in the spring.
