Fauna Shade is made up of Everett High School alumni Scotty Smith (guitar and vocals), Rylie Smith (bass) and Eduardo Contreras (drums). These guys are so young that their combined age wouldn't qualify for social security, but their age certainly doesn't impact the level of talent they bring to the stage.
Though Fauna Shade was opening the show on Saturday night, it was billed as the release for their new EP. I am pretty sure they played the longest set of the night, which is strange for the opening band, but none of the fans packed around the stage at Kroaker’s were complaining, and neither were the members of LAKE or Silver Torches.
Before playing their last song front man Scotty Smith told the crowd he had a box of free copies of the new EP sitting at the bar. It was easy to see how the crowd felt about Fauna Shade’s set as they rushed to get their copy before they were all gone. I think that was the first time I have ever seen that happen at a show in Everett.
Hear Fauna Shade’s new single “10’s 11’s” and the next time these guys play in town do yourself a favor and go see them.
