Where is outrage at 'nuclear option'

SHARE: facebook Twitter icon Linkedin icon Google+ icon Email icon |  PRINTER-FRIENDLY
Last week the Senate of the U.S. exercised the "nuclear option." By a simple majority vote they negated the historical two-thirds majority vote and changed the rules in the Senate. The rule change enables Senate to confirm presidential appointees with a simple majority rather than the historical precedent of 60 percent. The term "nuclear option" is appropriate because it has done more damage to our nation than a nuclear bomb. It has destroyed the underpinnings of our government by removing the checks and balances so ingeniously put in place by our forefathers.
This action was taken by people who swore an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. Instead they have trampled it under foot.
The consequence of changing the rule grants the president absolute power to appoint over 1,100 political cronies to powerful federal appellate courts and agencies. History has shown that such absolute power absolutely corrupts.
And the Republican opposition silently paced in their well-trodden corner and mumbled in their beer. Where was the outrage? Why weren't the American people awakened? Answer, the complicit news media was busy burying the story while the emotional 50th anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy covered every TV screen and printed page.
Wake up, Americans. Your nation is being destroyed by those you have elected in their unquenchable lust for power. And this nation, the last best hope for the world may be lost forever.
