LYNNWOOD — A private company should be running the Lynnwood Municipal Golf Course by the end of December.
The City Council this week approved an agreement with Premier Golf Centers of Seattle, the same vendor that runs the city of Everett’s two golf courses. The contract expires in 2018, with options to renew.
The city will pay $96,000 a year for the service, council documents show. The vendor also could be paid a growth incentive if certain revenue goals are met.
The management transition will begin over the next 30 days, parks director Lynn Sordel said. The vendor is expected to meet with groups that use the course regularly. The city still will have a “strong say” on prices, Sordel said.
A new marketing and promotions effort also is expected.
“There’s going to be a very strong blitz in early 2014,” Sordel said.
The city held more than a dozen public meetings regarding the future of the course this year. The contract has a 90 day opt-out clause for both parties.
The 75-acre golf course is along 68th Avenue W., near Edmonds Community College. The course’s sagging finances have been a problem cited by state auditors in recent years.
