Do we really need a new courthouse?

I see the Snohomish County Council, and even John Koster, and some others all agree that we need a new courthouse. What I haven’t seen is anyone who has said why we need a new courthouse. I’ve seen a lot of whining about budget cuts and personnel cuts so there should be plenty of extra office space. Lovick says that it will provide space for Superior Court. I served jury duty for a Superior Court case awhile back so I have to assume we already have some space. Not enough space? How about shift work? That’s what we do to avoid costly expansions. Work around the clock. I’ve been in the courthouse now and then and it seems to be a solid, well-maintained building. I didn’t see any plumbing problems in the restrooms, or crumbling walls. I did visit a few offices on occasion and I didn’t see anyone housed in less than acceptable space or quality. I guess the council hasn’t heard that we are broke. We don’t need another tax burden. Enough already. Back off.
