Why is it wrong to help Americans?

SHARE: facebook Twitter icon Linkedin icon Google+ icon Email icon |  PRINTER-FRIENDLY
It is very foolhardy to accuse the president of lying without a full knowledge of the facts, which are no doubt very complex. Any discrepancy between the intended and reality is more than likely the fault of the civil servants who drafted the act and the lawyers who interpret it.
Nevertheless, I fail to understand why Americans are so opposed to their government spending a single dime on health care. They approve of spending billions on the armed forces to protect us against real and imagined enemies. The Iraq war has already cost over a trillion dollars, and we're not finished yet. The Afghan war has already cost billions with no end in sight. But the U.S. casualties from these two campaigns (although heart breaking) is miniscule compared with the slaughter by the enemy within. That enemy is disease which kills and disables hundreds of thousands of Americans every year and yet we don't think the government should fight a war against it: very strange.
