Wednesday links: Russell Wilson named NFC offensive player of the week

Russell Wilson, who threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns in Seattle’s Monday night win over New Orleans, has been named the NFC player of the week for Week 13.

Wilson, who earned the same honor last year after leading the Seahawks to an overtime win in Chicago, joins Warren Moon as the only Seahawks quarterback to be named player of the week twice in his first two seasons with Seattle.

For the second time in as many years, Wilson is getting better as the season goes along, which not only bodes well for Seattle’s chances in the postseason, but will only increase the talk that Wilson is a legitimate MVP candidate. Since the Seahawks’ loss in Indianapolis, Wilson has thrown 14 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions, and in Seattle’s last two games, Wilson has posted the top two passer ratings of his career — 151.4 against Minnesota and 139.6 Monday.

Now, on to the links…

In today’s Herald, a look at how close the Seahawk are to clinching the NFC’s No. 1 seed, and how bad of news that is for the rest of the conference.

If you didn’t hear about it — or feel it — the Seahawks created seismic activity once again in Sodo, this time on Michael Bennett’s touchdown.

On 710 ESPN Seattle, John Clayton was asked about the Brandon Browner situation and said he thinks “one year is going to be off the table.” Browner, who had his appeal of what is reportedly a one-year suspension heard last week, is hoping for a fine with no games missed, and is willing to take legal action against the league if he is suspended, Clayton said. You can listen to the interview here. The Browner stuff starts around the 16:30 mark.

Danny O’Neil of 710 ESPN Seattle takes his weekly look at three things we learned and three things we’re still trying to figure out.

Todd Dybas of the News Tribune says the Seahawks weren’t affected by distractions last week.

USA Today’s Jarrett Bell was in town for Monday’s game, and says that for all of Russell Wilson’s athletic ability, his mental acumen is what’s making the biggest difference in Year 2.

A group of Seahawks fans raised money to have a plane fly a “Go Hawks” banner above Candlestick Park before Sunday’s game.

This is kind of funny (or sad if you’re a diehard Mariners fan), but Keith Olbermann takes a look at a tale of two cities, Seattle the football town and Seattle the baseball town, in light of Tuesday’s report that the Mariners might be players in the Robinson Cano sweepstakes.

And if you missed this earlier (I know I did), a pretty interesting Sunday conversation between Pete Carroll and ESPN analyst and former NFL head coach Jon Gruden.
