EVERETT -- Rick Comeau on Thursday was named general manager of Comcast Arena, replacing Jeff Schumacher, who resigned in October after only nine months on the job.
Schumacher left "to pursue other opportunities," said Tammi Bryant Olson, a marketing director for Global Spectrum, which operates Comcast Arena.
Comeau was hired as assistant general manager at the arena in July. As general manager, Comeau will handle day-to-day operations of Comcast Arena. These include booking, finances, events, the box office, marketing, client relations and corporate sales for the arena, Edward D. Hansen Conference Center and the Comcast Community Ice Rink.
"Rick has shown tremendous leadership for Global Spectrum in Everett in the assistant general manager role," company CEO John Page said in a written statement.
Comeau began his career with Global Spectrum in 2008 as operations manager at the South Okanagan Events Center in Penticton, B.C. Within two years, he was promoted to the director of operations for the events center. Comeau earlier worked at the CN Centre in Prince George, B.C.
"Rick has demonstrated his outstanding communication, leadership and operational expertise," said Gary Weikel, president of the Everett Public Facilities District, which owns the arena.
In the four months since Comeau came on board, Comcast Arena has seen record increases in attendance for annual events, including the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus, the Everett Fall Home Show, Disney on Ice and EnduroCross, according to Olson. A third show has been added for Disney Live in January due to demand, and more than 20 new guest services staff members have been hired. The venue also celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a free block party on Hewitt Avenue.
Comeau and his family live in Lake Stevens.
