Song of the week: “Forward Backward” by Susy Sun
Wanderlust took Sun about a year to complete and she got some help from some pretty great people. Andrew Joslyn and his Passenger String Quartet play on the record and Shawn Simmons who produced The Head and The Heart's album got on board to produce and engineer it.
The finished product is nothing short of gorgeous.
Over the last month and a half, I have had Wanderlust in pretty heavy rotation in my earbuds and after one listen it's easy to understand why. Susy Sun didn't just make a pop record. She made a pop record with integrity. Who knew there was such a thing, right?
When an artist bares their soul like this it isn't typically as catchy and fun to listen to, but when you listen to first track on Wanderlust, “Forward Backward,” you just kind of find yourself singing along even though you don't know the words. For that reason “Forward Backward” is the song of the week.
Watch the video and go download Wanderlust on iTunes. If you like what you hear, you can catch Susy Sun when she plays at the Croc in Seattle on Dec. 17. I know I'll be there.
