ACLU moves to block release of sex offender info
The Tri-City Herald reports Friday the ACLU plans to file a temporary restraining order against the Washington State Patrol to prevent the release of Level 1 sex offender information in 38 counties.
The state patrol plans to release the records to Donna Zink on Dec. 10. Zink is the former mayor of Mesa. She believes the information should be public so people can know who is living in their neighborhoods.
ACLU attorney Vanessa Hernandez says this case would release information on adults and juveniles. She says that being identified puts them at risk of harassment, assault and risks their employment and housing.
Information on level 1 offenders -- who are considered the least likely to reoffend -- is not posted online. Level 2 and 3 offender's information is posted online with their pictures.
