Hot shooting leads Marysville Pilchuck girls over Snohomish 47-45

MARYSVILLE -- The Marysville Pilchuck girls basketball team shot lights out from the 3-point line and the Tomahawks needed everyone of those long distance baskets to get past Snohomish on Friday.
Amanda Klep made the 12th and final 3-pointer for MP with 2.5 seconds left in the game to propel the Tomahawks to a 47-45 win over the Panthers.
Marysville Pilchuck head coach Julie Martin credited the 3-point barrage to the Tomahawks unselfish play.
"It was an extra pass, someone was always a little more open," Martin said. "We were definitely a team tonight. We worked really, really hard coming off (a season-opening loss to) Arlington."
Marysville Pilchuck was up 44-43 in the final minute, but Snohomish retook the lead on Madeline Smith's layup with 18.5 seconds left.
Instead of calling a timeout, Martin decided to let her team play and Klep ended up making the game-winner after a series of passes.
Jordan Bengen led Marysville Pilchuck with 12 points, while Charlee Pilon and Halie Romo each scored nine. Smith had a game-high 17 points for the Panthers.
Martin characterized the game as "back and forth." Snohomish built a slender three-point halftime lead that the Tomahawks erased with a 15-9 third quarter. The 15 points came on five 3-pointers.
"We hit a lot of clutch 3s," said Martin.
